"Those that know, do. Those that teach, understand"
Pain Relief Ireland are delighted that our Clinical Director Dr. Dominic Hegarty this week was invited to instruct on the world famous Racz Lab EU Interventional Pain Workshop in the University of Leiden, Netherlands. As the first Irish instructor invited to lecture on the course, Dr. Hegarty was one of the first European experts in these techniques and with over 8 years of experience in this area his knowledge on how to remove epidural adhesions or scar tissue in the spine is second to none. These techniques are regarded as the most difficult procedures to help manage spinal pain in the lumbar, thoracic and cervical area. This course is only offered to practising Interventional Pain Physicians to improve the “delivery of Interventional pain techniques”.
Dr. Hegarty said “It is hard to believe that 10 years ago I was first introduced to Prof. Gabor Racz. I had just started my fellowship in Guy’s & St Thomas’s London and Prof. Racz was hosting one of his teaching sessions. He immediately stimulated a passion in my mind, and he personally thought me about his new techniques and how we need to continue to refine and develop new pain interventional procedures.”
Having the opportunity to pass on the knowledge in this area to pain physicians from all over the world is a real pleasure...
“Having the opportunity to pass on the knowledge in this area to pain physicians from all over the world is a real pleasure and with the support of Prof. Gabor Racz and Mr. Chad Diebold (Epimed Europe) it is a challenge I enjoy”.
The technique of Epidulolysis of Adhesions in the spine is a technique reserved for individuals who have persistent post spinal pain often after surgery (including fusions, spinal stabilisation, discectomy etc.). In some cases of persistent lower backpain a modified approach can be used to target this source of pain and Dr. Hegarty can provide this for suitable individuals.
